What is the background of IAACE?
The Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education is a statewide association of individuals and institutions promoting the education and training of adults. The organization evolved from a group of adult educators who first met in December 1943 to discuss the future of adult education in Indiana. Since that time, many changes have occurred in Indiana’s social and economic structure that resulted in increased need for adult education.

The association has changed along with the times. The current Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education was formed in 1983.

The purpose of IAACE is to provide leadership for the advancement of the education of adults in the lifelong learning process. We advocate for the field of adult and continuing education. We provide staff development. We encourage and implement research. And, we communicate in various ways with the membership and the public.

What are the benefits of belonging to IAACE?
A primary benefit is the annual IAACE conference each spring which provides members with the opportunity to learn from and share with adult education professionals from throughout Indiana and to earn CEU’s and CRU’s.

There are legislative benefits. The IAACE Commission for Adult Basic and Secondary Education holds a 501(c) (4) tax status and is the organization that will influence and encourage legislation benefiting you and your adult learners.

Professional lines of communication are beneficial. The IAACE LISTSERVE allows subscribers to post questions and get answers from IAACE members throughout the state.

IAACE's regular newsletter keeps members abreast of the latest in adult education activities, issues, and trends.

IAACE members are eligible to join Teacher’s Credit Union and enjoy its benefits.

IAACE is affiliated with American Association for Adult and Continuing Education and The Commission on Adult Basic Education. Members are welcome at the AAACE and COABE national conferences.

Who can be a member?
Membership in the Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education includes adult education professionals from public school adult education, community education and continuing education programs, local literacy programs, business and industry, health and social welfare agencies, corrections, hospitals, libraries and many other fields.

Members from these diverse groups come together to share information and to form partnerships in order to better serve adults throughout Indiana.

The mission of the IAACE is to promote adult learning and development by providing leadership in unifying individual adult practitioners; fostering the development and sharing of information, theory, research, and best practices; promoting professional identity and growth; honoring successes; and advocating legislative position initiatives.
